Both Easy and Beneficial to Raise Vitamin D Levels

April 03, 2018

Vitamin D deficiency is a worldwide epidemic.. 14% of the world population has poor vitamin D levels. (1) One published report states that it affects 1 billion of us worldwide. (2) Low vitamin D status is connected to a wide range of diseases. Improving vitamin D levels is beneficial and easy…if vitamin D supplementation is taken. New Hampshire Spine and Sport encourages our Southern New Hampshire chiropractic patients to check and improve as necessary their vitamin D levels. New Hampshire Spine and Sport is certain that positive health benefits will follow from this effort.

DISEASES RELATED TO LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS

A widespread vitamin D deficiency is associated with many diseases. The incidence of cancers like lung, pancreatic, colorectal, kidney, breast is associated with low vitamin D levels. Diabetes, rickets, rheumatic arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer diseases, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and fractures in adults are too. (1, 2, 3) Vitamin D plays a key role in calcium homeostasis, skeletal metabolism, and the function of immune, cardiovascular and reproductive systems. (2) Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is also research-connected to vitamin D status and bone mineral density. (3) It responds well to vitamin D3 supplementation. Checking the occurrence of osteopenia/osteoporosis in these patients is the test as to the success of the treatment. (4) New Hampshire Spine and Sport notes that this is interesting as these two conditions are also identified as being affected by vitamin D status too. Southern New Hampshire chiropractic care at New Hampshire Spine and Sport benefits Southern New Hampshire chiropractic patients with these conditions.

BENEFITS OF RAISING VITAMIN D LEVELS

Supplementing those who take antidepressants with vitamin D is documented to improve the antidepressive effect. Researchers propose that vitamin D may be beneficial for other such conditions beyond just depression like schizophrenia, cognitive disturbances, attention deficit disorder, and autism. (1) Providing a daily equal dose of vitamin D (1000 units/kg I.P.) to post-surgical back patients for 3 weeks straight eases symptoms of neuropathic pain. (5) New Hampshire Spine and Sport sees how these benefits are worth the work our Southern New Hampshire chiropractic patients would undertake to elevate poor vitamin D levels.

HOW TO RAISE VITAMIN D LEVELS

A study of healthy young women showed that taking calcium plus vitamin D (1500 IU) by those with less than 20ng/L or 800 IU of vitamin D by patients with levels of greater than 20 ng/L. Both saw their vitamin D levels increase. The rise was witnessed within the first 30 days of the study for those taking calcium plus vitamin D. An interesting side observation in this study: It is difficult to get people to do what is recommended! Only 67 of the 106 study participants did what they were to do for the three months of the study! (6)
